How to Plan a Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is the most significant part of your wedding as it seals your love and commitment for each other.  It precludes the pre-nuptial events and consequently the reception. But a perfect wedding doesn’t happen overnight. It needs careful and smart planning.  It is daunting but it has its rewards. Seeking advice from professionals is a must for a dream wedding to happen.

1. Have an operational wedding outline

The wedding outline serves as a guide or procedure to ensure the smooth flow of the event. It covers the following: choice of an officiant, the processional, ceremony readings, vows, kissing, pronouncement, recessional, and even up to the reception. However, a personal touch or tweak allows you to include the do’s and eliminate the don’t ‘s in your event.  The result will be a very memorable and unique experience not only for both of you but for your guests as it shows your personality as a couple, too.

2. Prepare a wedding ceremony script

In a traditional wedding ceremony, there is always a ready template for the wedding script. However, coming up with your own scripts especially the wedding vows will make the wedding more intimate. Each uttered word coming from your heart becomes more meaningful than just reading from a prepared script.

3. Find an officiant

The officiant has a very important role in the wedding ceremony. It is ideal to find one who knows you personally as a couple or has seen your journey prior to your wedding.  However, if a pastor or priest is not available, you may consider a close and respected friend or family member to become one. Your choice is not limited to the title or position of a person.

4. Make a playlist for your wedding

Think about a music genre, be it romantic, nostalgic, spiritual, or alternative that you want to fit for the ceremony, and select the wedding songs or instrumental versions that reflect your choice of genre.  Play the music throughout the ceremony to accompany some segments.

At Mimi Ebichi Events,  we know how tedious it is to come up with a well-planned and smooth-sailing wedding celebration. Our team commits to providing top-of-the-class and distinct wedding ideas for every cultural taste, aesthetic appeal, and personality. Top Wedding Trends in 2022

The wedding industry has gone through major changes for the past years. As the times were changing, wedding trends have also been dynamic and ever-changing. If you are a couple who is planning a wedding in 2022, here are the fresh, new, out-of-the-ordinary wedding trends to watch out for next year.

1. “Anniception”

Anniception or Anniversary Reception is perhaps something you have never heard of before but it is one of the big things to happen in 2022. This is a type of celebration where couples recreate exactly their wedding reception on the day of their anniversary. This trend is most suited for couples who postponed a grand wedding a year ago and opted for a micro wedding due to pandemic restrictions. Since health protocols steadily ease up, anniception could be one of your choices for the months to come.

2. Micro weddings

If your desired wedding location still observes health restrictions, a micro wedding is a great choice to celebrate with your loved ones in a really special way and in a safer environment. However, micro weddings are not just for weddings in the time of COVID-19. Some couples prefer micro weddings whether it is in a season of pandemics or not, simply because micro weddings are promising in giving you intimate, solemn, and warm celebrations with your closest knit of family and friends.

3. Monochromatic weddings

If you are looking for a classy and chic wedding color palette for the coming year, then a monochromatic wedding is the perfect choice for you. Be it for the dress, florals, foods, or invitations, monochrome color palettes go with about anything in your wedding. Although it focuses on just one color, it will not go out of style because you can play and explore with different varieties of shades and tones with similar colors.

4. Pre-wedding toasts

Pre-wedding toast deviates from the traditional wedding toasts that we all know. This toast is being celebrated during the rehearsal dinner or the night before the actual wedding ceremony. This gives couples and their closest bunch a great opportunity to give out intimate and less awkward speeches. Also, pre-wedding toasts provide ample time to hit the dance floor and catch up with the guests.

5. Destination Weddings

Destination weddings or getaway weddings is the top choice for couples who simply love traveling and going out on adventures. Celebrating your wedding out-of-town is a good chance to have a different scenery out of the usual. Plus, what’s better than a wedding and vacation rolled into one?

6. Multi-day weddings

While you are at it with the getaway wedding, might as well take this as a chance to spend quality time with your beloved guests. Multi-day weddings are coming into popularity because it gives you a weekend wedding experience where you get to have fun activities with your guests for 2-3 consecutive days prior to the actual wedding day. If you are the type of couple who is fond of hosting parties and brunches, this option is the best choice for you.

How to Plan a Wedding During Covid-19

Tying the knot in this time of pandemic offers so many challenges.

While things are now uncertain, questions like “what if” abound in the minds of marrying couples. But, it should not take the excitement away that comes with wedding planning. We have listed down some of the tips to consider as you plan your wedding during a pandemic.

1. Decide on the venue and destination.

DC and Virginia are among the federal states that lifted all capacity restrictions and fully reopened their city as early this June 11, 2021, and May 28, 2021, respectively. Your best option of hosting a wedding amid the pandemic is to have it outdoors. However, if you are still intent on holding your wedding indoors, choose a well – ventilated with ample space for your guests to move around.

2. Hire a Wedding Planner

When to Hire a Wedding Planner

Planning a wedding at this time of the pandemic is tedious, to say the least. If there was ever the best time to hire a wedding planner, it would be now!  Book an appointment and a free consultation with us and we guarantee to scout the best wedding themes, vendor communications, fair contract negotiations, while we make your entire venue compliant with the latest local, state, and federal safety regulations and guidelines.

3. Opt for a micro wedding

Now that weddings during the pandemic have created newer ideas in the wedding industry, some couples opt for a “minimony” or a micro wedding.  It is an intimate affair, usually with no more than 50 invitees. Although they still have the time-honored traditions that come with weddings, the guest size is smaller which is ideal during Covid -19.

4. Livestream Your Celebration

If you have chosen a micro wedding and still want more friends and families to attend virtually, we recommend live streaming your wedding ceremony and celebration. Your wedding videographer will film the real-time happenings during your wedding and will post them into your preferred social media accounts. More so, your wedding planner can even create a virtual guest book so your friends and families can still send you warm messages even from a distance!

5. Specify and update safety guidelines on your wedding invites

Your wedding invite is the appropriate place to list the safety protocols and sanitation measures that you want your guests to observe while physically attending your wedding. This eliminates confusion by stating clear guidelines on wearing masks, social distancing, and handling of tokens. Your guests will appreciate being informed of safety measures ahead of time, thus giving everyone peace of mind while savoring the event.

At Mimi Ebichi Events, your health and safety are our topmost priority, especially during these times. We are committed to delivering wedding services and management that will not compromise the protocols set for your wedding venue and reception. We make sure to be updated with the latest guidelines and COVID-19 restrictions to come up with fresh and better wedding arrangements for you!

What is a Henna Night?

Wedding traditions vary from culture to culture. With the different emerging and classic wedding traditions that we have come to know, a henna night is one for the books. It is an event immersed in history and myths; where the bride’s family ceremoniously gives her to the family of the groom. This tradition originated from Turkey and has been observed in many parts of the world throughout generations.

What is a henna night tradition?

The Henna Night is a representation of the bride and groom’s rich and exquisite culture.

This tradition started to be organized in the bride’s home the night before the wedding with her girlfriends. Usually, it is celebrated by hanging a flag in the bride’s house to signify the start of the wedding accompanied by singing and dancing.

What is a Henna Night?

While Henna Night is one of the most highlighted wedding traditions, it has evolved dramatically with time passing. Presently, it is popularly known as a bachelorette party in which the attendance of the groom and his friends are also being considered. When properly planned, a henna night will leave unforgettable memories not only to the couple but also in the minds of the guests.

What do you wear during a henna night?

Generally, the outfits for a Henna Night vary from culture to culture. But it is also important to take note that the motif-inspired costumes or dresses in the past were elaborately adorned with colorful silk and velvet fabrics called the “ Bindalli” for the bride, her friends, and aunt in-laws. It is part and parcel of the Trousseau that normally arrived in advance during the preparation stage.

Meanwhile, a red veil and a sequined make up the face of the bride while the henna tray will be brought in by the relatives of the groom. While the celebration of the Henna Night may have changed over the years, there remains the bride-to-be and henna on her hands.

While a Henna Night tradition is celebrated  exquisitely and diversely, here are the top 2 Henna Night themes that will surely captivate the life of the celebration:

Indian Henna Night

Indian wedding is the most selected Henna Night concept lately. If you opt for a fun-filled concept via dancing, then this theme is for you. For an Indian Henna Night theme, guests wear colorful (Sari) Indian clothes as they apply the henna tattoos to the bride and groom. This is the most awaited highlight of the Henna Night.

Afghan Henna Night

In an Afghan wedding, on the other hand, a Henna Night (Khina) is being celebrated basically the same. The bride’s hands and feet are designed by Henna – a ritual that symbolizes the start of the marriage. The bride wears a green headdress which conveys prosperity and is also the dominant color of Afghanistan surroundings; while the groom dons a traditional outfit called “Jami”.

Multicultural wedding traditions demand careful planning, creative execution, and keen knowledge of details. Wedding Veil 101: To Wear or Not to Wear

Veil or no veil? You decide.

While it is traditional that brides wear a veil on their wedding day, it’s optional. Did you know that it was initially used by the Roman brides to disguise herself from any evil spirits who wanted to ruin her happiness?

Wedding Veil 101: To Wear or Not to Wear

Whether you choose a customized or traditional kind of veil, we love being a part of selecting the fabric and stones as well as witnessing the bride’s favorite flower and wedding date hand-sewn onto the veil.

Here are some of the factors that you might want to consider in deciding to wear a veil or not:

1. Strong traditional roots.
If you are deeply connected with your strong cultural or traditional roots, then there is all the more reason that you wear a veil. Wedding veils, for most cultures, uphold a significant meaning or representation of a cultural value. There are couples who opt to have a sacred and sacramental wedding ceremony by honoring the symbolic value of the different wedding elements such as the veil.

2. Ceremonial
This is quite related to the first factor mentioned. If you want to have a ceremonial moment of ‘unveiling’ your wedding veil at the altar, this might be the best option. A well-versed and reliable wedding photographer and/or videographer will surely capture this moment as one of the wedding highlights.

3. To give accent and style
One of the many purposes of wearing a wedding veil is creating an accent and adding a touch of elegance to your wedding gown. The veil shares the spotlight with the bride’s overall fit as she walks down the aisle. In addition, most wedding pictures give special attention to the veil laid all over the ground up to the bride’s crowning glory.

Wedding Veil 101: To Wear or Not to Wear

4. Consistency
However, if you want to remain consistent with your ensemble throughout your wedding day, wearing a veil might not be the best option for you. Wedding stylists all agree upon a preference that wedding veils should only be worn during the wedding rites and not until the wedding reception. If you plan to stick with a consistent style for your wedding fit, it is best to consider a wedding look that suits both the wedding ceremony and wedding reception.

5. The Wedding Dress
Since the wedding veil shares the spotlight with the wedding dress, brides should consider the style of the bridal gown first. If the dress has an opulent, intricate, or an open cut at the back, wearing a wedding veil will cover up or take away that part of the dress.

Whether it’s a go or a no, wearing a veil for your wedding is completely up to your personal preference. We love being a part of your special day by delivering you the best and top-of-the-class styling advice from the details of your dress to the themes of your wedding reception. Mimi Ebichi Events is committed to serving with passion and excellence in weddings and events.

Why Should I Hire a Wedding Planner?

A Do-It-Yourself Wedding is every couple’s dream and nightmare rolled into one. While you can only do as much, putting out so many tasks in your hands can lead to a catastrophic and stressful preparation when handled poorly. One of the things that you MUST invest in is hiring a reliable, efficient, and versatile wedding planner. These are the reasons why a dream wedding is always paired with a good wedding planner.

1. They are god-sent. Period.

Behind every perfect wedding out there is a busy-bee wedding planner. Wedding planners are problem-solvers, they sort out all issues and also foresee how to prevent them. These issues vary from the pre-wedding, the wedding itself, and even up to the post-wedding celebrations. You may not realize it now, but having a wedding planner is like getting a ‘third eye’ at the backstage of your wedding celebrations. They provide the most honest advice and full-time assistance; they simplify things so that tasks can be bearable for you along the way.

2. They are so into detail.

As mentioned earlier, your wedding planner is your ‘third eye’ behind the stage. They take care of all the big and small details of your wedding, from gathering the entourage to finding that one missing candle for your candle bearer. Your wedding planner literally takes on the ‘umbrella’ tasks and roles of your wedding preparations that you may foresee before, during, and after your wedding. They take care of the things that may be minute and non-existent to the couples in their wedding preparations.

3. They are the kings and queens of organization skills.

When you first plan your wedding, an overflow of ideas plays in your mind. These ideas may naturally be unconnected and abstract at first. Your wedding planner sorts out these ideas to make them concrete and feasible ones and gradually execute them from there. Not only do they project their organization skills, but they also supplement your ideas with their creative minds based on their craft and experience.

4. They ease the stress and anxiety that comes from the wedding prep.

Although unavoidable, the service and expertise provided by your wedding planner somehow ease the glaring amount of tasks and responsibilities that come from planning a wedding. For instance, these planners will provide you with a pool of vendors and suppliers so you won’t have to spend so much time scouting for them one by one. Not only do they provide you with connections, but they also take charge of communicating with them. Think of them as a one-stop-shop for your dream wedding.

5. They make everything seem ‘doable’

No matter how much a certain task can seem huge and impossible, your wedding planner divides the labor into bite-sized pieces so you can digest it one by one. All credits go to their training, skills, and experience that will provide you with a service and pool of connections so you won’t have to spend so much time and effort on achieving that dream wedding. They create a roadmap or a timeline of events for the duration of the preparation to avoid cramming and overlapping of tasks. These people manage to take it to step by step as you go near the big day without compromising their quality of service.

To book an appointment, please use our form here.

6. They will save you a LOT of time.

As you may not know yet, your wedding planner will do most of the talking and negotiation to all your chosen vendors, suppliers, and basically the people involved in your wedding. They spare you a lot of time doing these errands and you’d be surprised to know how they do it even better and faster!

7. They stick and work with your budget.

How to Infuse More Culture and Love in Arab Weddings

Wedding planners are also known for being the most resourceful person in the room. They make do with whatever available resources they have (and even more!) without sacrificing your budget. Working on a budget demands careful planning and excellent negotiating skills to achieve the kind of celebration that comes with it. This can be a difficult task so it is best that you leave these in the hands of your professional planner who can adapt to your timing and budget.

8. Results are always guaranteed.

You may want to consider hiring a planner based on the word of mouth – a referral from your friend who was recently a client of the said planner, a famous influencer whose wedding inspired yours, or a family or friend who had been a colleague of that wedding planner. These prior clients and encounters will help you initially assess a wedding planner’s skills, etiquette, and creativity. More often than not, a wedding’s outcome can already speak volumes for the skills that you are looking for a wedding planner.

9. They bring value and distinction.

When you hire a wedding planner, the overall outcome of your celebration becomes more intricate and well-spirited to all the people involved. You will leave your beloved guests with the impression that this is a well-thought-of wedding and that they deserve to be one of the few people who witness it.

10. They make sure that your wedding is truly a celebration.

Your wedding is a turning point in closing a chapter in your life and entering a new one. Naturally, the preparation comes with bombarding tasks and responsibilities. When you invest in a reliable wedding planner, you allow yourself to experience your dream wedding into a genuine celebration and not merely a bunch of tasks and social responsibilities that you just have to get by and get it done. This is the common cause of the wedding journey. The months nearing your big day can make you feel like the preparation and wedding itself is nothing but a chunk of overwhelming work that you have to fulfill in settling down to marriage.

Mimi Ebichi Indian Wedding Planner in VirginiaAt Mimi Ebichi Events, we uphold the value of making our clients our top priority. We believe that you deserve to enjoy the celebration you worked hard for in and return it by delivering and offering full assistance to all your wedding needs.

The Significance of Varmala in an Indian Wedding

What is the Varmala and Why is it Significant in Indian Wedding Tradition?

It is no secret that some wedding rituals can be traced to family traditions in ancient times. Varmala (aka Jaimala) is one of them. Historically, princesses in ancient India used to choose their husbands during their Swayamvar, and it depicts similarly in today’s rituals. Varmala is a flower/floral exchanged by couples to signify acceptance of each other as husband and wife.

Fresh flowers as Varmala Indian Wedding Ceremony

Indian weddings in Washington DC exude the beautiful aroma of fresh flowers and most also prefer Varmalas made of fresh flowers. The best combination for the same is that of roses, jasmine and marigold. Some people also opt for garlands made of artificial flowers. Artificial flowers have a longer shelf life and may not stain the clothes during the ceremony.

Related: Vidaai Ritual in Hindu Weddings

The groom is first worshipped (symbolically) upon his arrival, after which the ceremony of Varmala takes place. Normally the bride puts the Varmala around her husband-to-be first, after which the groom adorns her with hers. It denotes the beginning of the wedding ceremony.

Varmala garland for the groom indian weddings

The fun part is seen when the groom tilts his head backwards to make it slightly difficult for the bride to put the garland around his neck first since it is believed that whoever lowers their head first to accept the garland remains the dominated one in the relationship. It begins with the groom dodging the bride’s attempts at placing the Varmala.

Sometimes, groomsmen take the challenge up a notch by picking the groom up on their shoulders. Of course, the men on the bride’s side do the same for the bride (hahaha). They pick her up, almost as a reflex, to bring them both to the same eye level again. The bride then keeps trying to place the Varmala on his neck, sometimes as if she is throwing it to score a basket!

As you can see, the Varmala ceremony is a great depiction of the love, respect, and acceptance that the couple share with each other. The Varmala can also be the first icebreaker between husband & wife. They accept each other by illustrating their ‘I do’ through the ceremony!
